(CHICAGO) In the Senate campaign, Democratic challenger Tammy Duckworth was at UIC Wednesday proposing a solution for the big issue of college affordability.
Tammy Duckworth wants to make community college free, expand Pell Grants and allow students to refinance their college debt. She would pay for this by no longer allowing corporations to write off executive bonuses as a business expense.
“If you actually say you have to pay taxes on that you would generate the money that would allow us to pay the In The Red Act along with other programs the carried interest loop hole that would us to fund the free community college program to the tune of $60 billion a year over 10 years,” Duckworth said.
She also brushed off new attacks from U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) about here service to veterans as a nasty attack on her greatest strength.
