Lawyers for discredited cop’s wife argue charges too vague

(WAUKEGAN) An attorney says he will argue the charges filed against the widow of a discredited suburban Chicago police officer are so vague they are unconstitutional.

Melodie Gliniewicz was indicted months after Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz’s suicide in September 2015. He tried to make his suicide appear he was gunned down in the line of duty. She has pleaded not guilty to charges she siphoned money from the village’s youth policing program.

Defense attorney Donald Morrison on Tuesday sought additional time to prepare the motion seeking to dismiss the charges.

Morrison told Lake County Circuit Judge James Booras he is working on paring down 12,000 pages of discovery to the facts he believes will support a motion to dismiss the charges against the 52-year-old Gliniewicz.
