(CHICAGO) Illinois has received more time to comply with the Real ID act , the post-September 11th law that tightened requirements for state-issued Ids.
Fourteen states, including Illinois, have not complied with the 2005 act.
Illinois officials have argued that it’s costly, especially for a state with budget problems.
Earlier this year, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White said that the state is 84% compliant with the federal mandate and, now, the government has given Illinois an extension.
Until October 10, 2017, you can still show your Illinois Driver’s license when trying to get into a federal building or going through airport security checkpoints.
