CHICAGO (AP) — Miguel Montero launched a tie-breaking, pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to spark the Cubs to an 8-4 win over the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS.
Montero connected with two outs off of Los Angeles reliever Joe Blanton, who then gave up a home run to Dexter Fowler on the next pitch.
Blanton entered the game after the Dodgers tied the score in the top of the inning. Adrian Gonzalez delivered a two-run single off of Cubs closer Aroldis Chapman to make the score 3-3.
Chicago’s Javier Baez drove in a run and stole home in the second inning off of Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda who also gave up an RBI double to Kris Bryant in the first inning.
Cubs starter Jon Lester gave up a run on four hits in six innings before being pulled from the game. He surrendered a pinch-hit home run to Andre Ethier.
