(CHICAGO) Seventeen people killed in gun violence over the weekend, the deadliest weekend so far this year.
Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson’s reaction is to recommend what he and the mayor have recommended so many times before.
“It was a tough weekend but that just goes back to what I’ve been saying all the time,” Johnson said Monday. “Listen, until we start holding repeat gun offenders accountable for these crimes, we’re going to keep seeing cycles of gunfire like this.”
There is a bill in the works in Springfield to do that, but it’s fate is unknown.
Among those killed this weekend, twin 17-year-old brother who were gunned down during a drive-by shooting in the city’s Old Town neighborhood.
