(CHICAGO) Cubs fans packed the sidewalks of Chicago and the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communication says an estimated 5-million people ended up in Grant Park to wave and cheer on the World Series Championship Cubs during the rally.
Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts says over the years, he has told people, “the men who are on the field when the Cubs win the World Series will not just be Chicago baseball players but they are going to be Chicago baseball legends.”
Cubs president Theo Epstein put the 108 year championship drought this way.
“Lets be honest for a while there we forgot the “not” in try not to suck.”
He thanked fans for being so patient.
Cubs Skipper Joe Maddon welcomed fans to “Cubstock 2016.”
Anthony Rizzo got choked up while introducing retiring catcher David Ross.
“He’s like a brother to me and he is going out as a champion,” Rizzo said.
As the rally opened up, the team remembered those players and broadcaster who passed away before the Cubs could claim the title of World Series Champions including Ernie “Mr. Cub” Banks, Ron Santo, Jack Brickhouse and Harry Caray.
