MADISON, Wis. (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of former Wisconsin state Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus to serve as his chief of staff is putting the spotlight on other Republicans in the state.
As the head of the Republican National Committee, Priebus was an early and outspoken backer of Trump’s. But other Wisconsin Republicans have a more complicated relationship with the next president.
Gov. Scott Walker got behind Trump only after initially urging other Republicans running for president to unite to defeat him. Walker helped Trump’s running mate Mike Pence prepare for the vice presidential debate but Walker insists he’s not interested in a Cabinet post.
Conservative Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is a Trump supporter who said last week he would serve in his administration if asked.
