(WHITING, Ind.) Up to 80 salaried employees at the BP Whiting Refinery face layoffs because of slumping oil prices.
It is the first mass layoff at the refinery since 1999.
The refinery employs some 1,850 workers as well as hundreds of contractors.
The trade publication Oilprice.com estimates that the oil and gas companies in the past two years have laid off more than 350,000 workers across the world because of low oil prices.
