(CHICAGO) Former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Chicago) was given a 30 month prison sentence followed by 36 months of supervised release for spending $750,000 in campaign cash on personal items. His attorney argued in a court filing Tuesday that Jackson had successfully completed approximately 18 months of supervised release and “abided by all terms and conditions of his supervised release.” He has performed 500 hours of community service and has paid a $750,000 judgement.
Federal prosecutors did not oppose the request and the judge issued her order Tuesday.
Jackson’s now estranged wife, former Ald. Sandi Jackson (7th), had also served prison time and supervised release for her role in the scheme. She left federal prison six months ago and both are now in a contentious divorce.
