(CHICAGO) A crucial vote is set for tonight in the United States House on the Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare. The Chicago Tribune says all Illinois Democrats are planning to vote against the proposal, which Moline Democrat Cheri Bustos saying will take away health insurance from hundreds of thousands of Illinois residents.
Channahon Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger told “The Big John and Ray Show” on WLS that he is going to vote yes, but that he thinks the vote will be incredibly close. “Well, if I had to put my money on it I’d probably say yes but it is literally razor-thin so I am almost just kind of flipping a coin. But I think we’re very close to having the votes. I think if we don’t have the votes we probably won’t vote on this tonight, but I gotta tell ya, this is the one shot. I can’t see us taking another bite at this apple if this fails.”
Kinzinger also says he met personally this week with President Donald Trump, who supports the bill, and says he was surprised at the insight that Trump displayed. “I met with the President a couple days ago on this and I gotta tell ya, he was very, very engaged in this. Very determined to say ‘We gotta get this done.’ Frankly I saw a completely different side to President Trump than I’ve ever seen, and frankly it was good.”
While Kinzinger says he is a firm “yes”, the Tribune reports that west suburban Republican Peter Roskam and Randy Hultgren are still not saying how they will vote. Roskam’s district voted in favor of Hillary Clinton in November, and both Roskam and Hultgren have been targeted for defeat by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
