(CHICAGO) A Cook County judge was reportedly shot to death early Monday morning in front of the judge’s home in the south side Roseland neighborhood.
The Chicago Tribune and ABC 7 Chicago broke the story that 66-year old Associate Judge Raymond Myles was killed, and a 52-year-old woman was wounded in the shooting in front of the judge’s home in the 9400 block of South Forest Ave.
Myles was an associate judge in the Cook County Circuit Court’s Criminal Division. He had been involved in several high-profile cases, including hearings involving suspects in the 1992 massacre of seven people at the Palatine Brown’s Chicken Restaurant, and involving the suspect in the murder of three members of singer Jennifer Hudson’s family in 2008.
Myles was also involved in a violent incident in September 2015 in which a man severely beat him after a traffic accident. That man, 22-year-old Deandre Hudson is free on bond and was awaiting trial in the alleged attack on Judge Myles, when the judge was found shot to death this morning.
Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County Timothy Evans wrote an email to judges this morning saying, “I am deeply saddened to share with you that the Chicago Police Department called my office this morning with tragic news concerning one of our colleagues. Police said Associate Judge Raymond Myles was fatally shot early this morning. I know you join me in sending our condolences to his family and colleagues in the Criminal Division.”
