(CHICAGO) A woman who Cook County Judge Raymond Myles knew was shot in the leg, outside of his home, on Monday morning. She is expected to recover. When the judge came out, he exchanged words with the attacker, was shot, and died of his wounds.
“We believe this was a targeted robbery,” said Melissa Staples, CPD Chief of Detectives.
Staples won’t say whether it was the judge or the woman who was the target, adding that more details will likely come out in bond court.
37-year old Joshua Smith is charged with murder, attempted murder, and obstruction. Chief Staples says of the gun that was used in Monday’s shooting, “We immediately ordered a trace on those ballistics and learned that the gun used in this tragic incident was also used in an armed robbery that occurred this past January in the 7th district where a victim was shot, non-fatally.”
Joshua Smith served 6-years in prison after being convicted of armed robbery in 2003.
