(CHICAGO) The Archdiocese of Chicago has reached settlements with three men who say they were abused years ago by a defrocked priest convicted of child abuse.
The separate lawsuits alleged the archdiocese and then-Cardinal Francis George had information as early as 1994 that Daniel McCormack was unfit to work with children. The lawsuits allege the abuse occurred between 2000 and 2005.
The Archdiocese confirms the settlements, which are said to total $3.15 million.
McCormack pleaded guilty in 2007 to abusing five children. He was removed from the priesthood and sentenced to five years in prison. He was released in 2009 but has been at a state-run mental health facility ever since.
