(JOLIET) After a massive search for 1 year old Semaj Crosby, the focus Wednesday night turned to a home on Louis Road in Joliet Township. It’s where she disappeared Tuesday afternoon.
Will County Deputy Chief Rick Ackerson says she had been living there with her two brothers and mother.
“Last night, at approximately 11 P.M. , after negotiations with the attorney that the family had hired, the attorney was able to convince the mother to give us consent to search the residence. At approximately 12 A.M. the body of Semaj Crosby was located within the residence, ” said Ackerson.
Ackerson says that, at any given time, there could be as many as 15 people living in that small home and that the lawyer for the child’s mother describes some of those people as “squatters.”
Police say that when they searched the home they found people living in “very deplorable conditions.”
No arrests reported and an autopsy is underway.
