WLS AM 890’s own Bill Cameron has been following the story of why Mayor Rahm Emanuel is holding up Governor Bruce Rauner’s plan to sell the Thompson Center. Emanuel told reporters he wasn’t willing to “stick Chicago taxpayers” with the hefty tab to rehab the CTA station on site. Governor Bruce Rauner believes Emanuel is inflating the cost so state tax payers could foot the bill. “I’m not gonna stick that on Chicago taxpayers,” Emanuel countered. “The developer or the state has to do it.
“This is really all about Rahm getting some leverage on Governor Rauner to get what he wants out of Springfield in the way of paying for schools and reforming the pensions in way that Rahm can afford them at CPS and City Hall,” Cameron told Big John and Ray. “Why should Chicago taxpayers pay for the replacement of the Lake-Clark CTA line that’s inside the Thompson Center? They shouldn’t. The developer should or the state should.”
On this week’s Connected to Connected Chicago, Cameron will welcome Governor Bruce Rauner and will most likely press him over the sale of the Thompson Center. Connected to Chicago airs every Sunday evening at 7pm on WLS AM 890. You can also follow Cameron on twitter @BillJCameron
