(CHICAGO) President Trump’s longtime adviser Roger Stone was on WLS Friday morning, talking about the President’s firing of FBI director James Comey, and the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Stone is one of the Trump associates under scrutiny for allegedly colluding with Russia to embarrass Hillary Clinton and help Trump win the election. He told WLS has done nothing wrong, and looks forward to testifying before congressional committees.
“I have not been subpoenaed, it appears that General Flynn was subpoenaed because he refused to turn over any documents and he did not comply with the Senate’s request. I am going to comply with their document request, and as you mentioned, I’m anxious to testify. I am Jones-ing to testify.”
Stone also told WLS he strongly supports Trump’s decision to fire Comey. CNN has reported that Stone spoke with Trump after Comey testified before the Senate last week and suggested the President fire him.
Trump tweeted Wednesday that he hasn’t spoken to Stone “in a long time,” saying CNN’s reporting on the matter was “false.” However Stone told WLS he spoke with the President recently.
“I’m not going to characterize exactly when, other than to say very very very recently. It’s always been my position that I won’t comment on the scope or the content or the frequency of my occasional conversations with the President. I’m not going to start now.”
Even though Stone admitted speaking to Trump “very very very recently”, he denies urging his friend to fire James Comey.
“Just to be clear, I am not the source of the stories at Politico or CNN that claimed that I urged the President to fire Comey. I didn’t comment on those stories, nor am I going to contradict the President of the United States, other than to say he was well aware of my views on Comey and he did the right thing. I support him 100 percent on this decision. Comey had become a law unto himself.”
