(CHICAGO) — A charter school in Chicago is threatening a strike. If teachers at Passages Charter School were to walk off the job, the school would be the first charter school in the nation to strike.
Teachers are expected to announce the strike Friday afternoon. They voted to strike on May 4 after they say a year of bargaining has failed to produce a fair contract.
Passages was one of the first charter schools created in Chicago and serves some 500 students on the city’s North Side. There are currently 46 union teachers, teaching assistants and paraprofessionals at the school.
Teachers say management refuses to address “rock-bottom spending” when it comes to salaries.
