(CHICAGO) It was 1978 when Midway airport was nearly a ghost town. Few major flights and a lot of smaller planes. The two terminals were quiet, parking was free or darn close to it.
Then a small regional airline, Midway Airlines, came to town advertising the no-hassle airport on the southwest side.
Once the busiest airport in the country, it had a long way to go. Expect the construction crews to start rolling in.
Now, with more parking and Southwest Airlines along with a few other airlines, Midway is busy again. That means it needs even more work. So, a 323 million dollar makeover of Midway is ready to start. Parking is the first change. A 1400 car increase will be built, and the CTA stop will be improved. And for creature comforts, another 75 million dollars will expand the concession spots by threefold, making Midway far less than an afterthought airport.
