(DETROIT) General Motors is the latest automaker to face allegations of cheating on diesel emissions tests.
A lawsuit, filed in Detroit federal court, alleges that General Motors diesel pickup trucks cheat on emissions tests.
The pickups have Duramax diesel engines and, according to the suit filed by the Hagens Berman firm of Seattle, there are 3 devices on them that are rigged to allow more pollution on the road than during government lab tests. The suit alleges the trucks emit 2 to 5 times the legal limit for harmful nitrogen oxide.
GM says the allegations are without merit.
Diesel engines have been under scrutiny after Volkswagen admitted that its diesel cars cheated on tests.
Earlier this week, feds filed suit against Fiat Chrysler, alleging that some of its diesel Ram pickups and Jeep Grand Cherokees from the 2014 to 2016 model years cheat on emissions tests. Fiat Chrysler says that unlike VW, it did NOT install the software with intent to cheat on tests.
