(CHICAGO) A mental fitness evaluation will be done on a Wisconsin man charged with shooting and seriously injuring an Amtrak conductor.
The order came after 79-year-old Edward Klein’s public defender told a DuPage County judge that she has “bona fide doubt” of the suburban Milwaukee man’s mental fitness.
Klein is being held on a $1.5 million dollar bond on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery.
Officials say he shot an Amtrak conductor May 16 because he wasn’t allowed to de-board early at the Naperville stop. The conductor was struck in the abdomen and suffered intestinal injuries. Earlier this week, he was upgraded to serious condition from critical.
Klein’s next court date is scheduled for June 28.
