(CHICAGO) City Hall’s Inspector General Joe Ferguson is out with a new audit of the city’s collective bargaining agreements and this one reveals an very generous benefit for retired cops.
When you hear the words comp time, you think of workers getting time off instead of cash overtime, but check-out what Ferguson found for retired Chicago cops getting cash for unused comp time.
“About half of them getting pay outs well north of $50,000. It was not uncommon for officers to retire from the force and receive quarter million dollar buyback pay outs, and in the most egregious example somebody receiving $799,000 in comp time buyback which along with buyback of other forms of accrued leave time put the pay out from the tax payer to this individual on the way out the door or in the period following their time out the door of over $833,000,” said Ferguson.
