(CROWN POINT, INDIANA) Most of us have heard the term “Puppy Mill”, but many of us don’t know for sure what they are. A Crown Point, Indiana man knows what they are, and is wanted for running one. Stevce Rajcinoski of Crown Point has been formally charged with nearly 100 counts of animal cruelty after nearly 70 dogs and puppies were removed from a puppy mill on May 3rd.
A raid on his property in the 5900 block of 125th Avenue found 68 dogs and puppies confiscated along with 3 goats, and a miniature horse. There was no question it was a puppy mill.
A puppy mill is considered just that when there are numerous female dogs all having litters of different breeds at the same time. These female dogs are bred over and over again until they can’t breed anymore. Many times, they are in filthy conditions, along with their newborn puppies. Those puppies are quite often short changed on medications, and even if they are malformed, having bad hips, or bad overbites or under-bites, they are sold to pet stores. Their selling price to the stores is quite low, while they are sold to unsuspecting purchasers for hundreds of dollars or more.
Right now, Lake County, Indiana police are looking for the 36 year old Rajcinoski. He fled after the raid. There is a warrant out for his arrest. He is wanted on 11 counts of animal mutilation, 72 counts of animal neglect, and 11 counts of practicing veterinary medicine without a license.
The dogs that wre rescued are currently at the Lake County Animal Control and Adoption Center. But they will not be adopted out until their health is better. And at the moment, they will only be adopted out to homes within 50 miles of the shelter, since they are all part of legal case. A GoFundMe page is set up to help raise funds for the care of the recovered animals.
