(WASHINGTON) — Some Republican members of Congress are speaking up in defense of special counsel Robert Mueller after some have begun raising questions about his impartiality.
CNN reports that three members of the legal team known to have been hired so far by special counsel Robert Mueller to handle the Russia investigation have given political donations almost exclusively to Democrats and that has some Trump allies questioning the former FBI director who also worked under now fired FBI director James Comey.
But House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told reporters Tuesday that, “the best advice would be to let Robert Mueller do his job.”
U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Channahon) echoed Ryan in saying that they need to give Mueller a chance.
“I frankly think there is no collusion, in my personal opinion, but let the independent prosecutor get to that conclusion and then if there’s anybody within the campaign circle that had issues or untold contacts with Russia, we need to know that so that it never happens again,” Kinzinger told the Big John and Ramblin’ Ray Show Tuesday on WLS.
Kinzinger calls Mueller, “an honest guy.”
