(CHICAGO) Government sources say the shooter in Alexandria, VA. has been identified as James T. Hodgkinson of Downstate Belleville, Illinois. He died after the attack and the subsequent shootout with police.
Hodgkinson, 66, owns a home inspection business, but according to the Washington Post, his home inspection license expired in November 2016 and was not renewed.
Public records in St. Clair County show he was charged in April 2006 with battery and aiding damage to a motor vehicle. The charges were ultimately dismissed.
Other media outlets say that on social media Hodgkinson was a Bernie Sanders supporter and wrote on Facebook that, “Trump is a traitor. Trump has destroyed our democracy. It’s time to destroy Trump and Co.”
Hodgkinson is a native of Downstate Belleville and studied at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville as well as Southwestern Illinois College.
