(SPRINGFIELD) Without a budget deal in Springfield today, state road construction could be shutting down.
25,000 workers on 900 road projects would be affected.
Todd Maisch of the state chamber of commerce says it’s not as though any new money is required. “These are dollars sitting there unspent. For the legislature to allow a very preventable crisis to happen is just inexcusable.”
If there’s no deal today, the state’s credit rating would be expected to drop to junk status on Monday, while state universities and social service programs could be on the road to financial starvation.
