(CHICAGO) — Another one of John Wayne Gacy’s victims has been identified decades after his remains were found under the serial killer’s Norwood Park Township home.
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says 16-year-old James Byron Haakenson ran away from Minnesota and was killed by Gacy in August 1976.
The teen’s remains were among those of more than two dozen young men found in Gacy’s crawl space in 1978.
“At many times he was killing so many people that he was burying people on top of each other,” Dart said at a Wednesday news conference. “And so in this situation Jimmy’s remains were found immediately beneath another you man’s remains.”
That body had previously been identified as Rick Johnston, who never made it home from a August 1976 concert.
Haakenson is one of eight who were buried without being identified, and leaves six remaining unidentified victims. Gacy was executed in 1994.
