(CHICAGO) A group of aldermen are trying to restore city aviation officers status as full-fledged police.
The infamous case of an aviation cop dragging a passenger down the aisle of a United flight led to Rahm’s aviation commissioner decommissioning them as police.
Aldermen like Nick Sposato say that was overreacting. Here’s his remedy: “Better training and people negotiating a little more, I guess. But how long can we wait. If somebody says I’m not gettin’ off, at what point do ya say enough. Is two hours enough? Is three hours enough. Ya got 200-300 people on the plane, when do you say that’s it, if you’re not gonna get off, we have to drag you off. I dunno.”
The aldermen say the aviation cops can’t be decommissioned without their approval and they’re planning city council hearings on the issue.
