DYER, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a suspected car thief hit a pedestrian during a police chase in south suburban Chicago that ended in northwestern Indiana where the suspect was shot to death.
Lake County sheriff’s department spokesman Mark Back says one person died in the shooting about 6 a.m. Thursday in Dyer, Indiana, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) south of downtown Chicago.
Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Dan Murchek says the chase began in Illinois and that Indiana State Police will investigate the shooting. He provided no other details.
Sauk Village, Illinois, police chief Robert Kowalski says officers were chasing a suspected stolen car when it hit the pedestrian. He says that person was taken to a hospital but provided no details on the pedestrian’s condition.
