(CHICAGO) In the state school aid standoff, legislative leaders are meeting again today, this time here in Chicago, to try to reach a compromise.
Even if they come up with a deal, Governor Bruce Rauner may again reject it.
Mayor Emanuel sounds like he expects that. He calls it another Groundhog Day, saying “My position is quite clear: override the governor. That’s the right thing to do.”
Robert Nunamaker, the mayor of Fox River Grove, says he’s talked to some Republican state lawmakers and, “I said the perfect should not be the enemy of the good. There are many Republican lawmakers who say we can do a little bit better and the time is now.”
So, if Republicans want more and Democrats don’t want to dance, we’re probably headed for an override vote next week.
