(CHICAGO) A Chicago area man who was on the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list and was wanted in the killing of a 15-year-old boy is back in Chicago after being arrested in Mexico. Mexican federal immigration officers Luis Macedo, 29, on Saturday without incident. He had been on the most-wanted list since May 2016.
Macedo is charged in connection with the death of Alex Arellano. Authorities say the 15-year old was beaten, shot, run over by a car and set on fire by members of the Latin Kings street gang who thought he was in a rival gang. Arellano told them he was not in a gang.
In court Tuesday, Macedo’s lawyer portrayed him as a man who decided to drop out of gang life in Chicago and start over as a barber and boxing coach in Mexico.
Prosecutors say Macedo took off because he and his gang found out that a fellow gang member was arrested and could implicate them in Arellano’s murder.
He is the last of five people to be charged and bond has been has been set at $10 million.
