(CHICAGO) Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is making another big buy of advertising in support of Cook County’s new and controversial penny-per-ounce tax on sweetened beverages.
Bloomberg has chipped in $3M more – on top of the 2M he’s already spent – to keep ads running that promote the pop tax as good for your health.
Retailers want it repealed and their leader Rob Karr is pretending not to mind Bloomberg’s million, saying “We welcome him to the fight. It’s an uphill fight. I don’t think anybody’s buying the health argument. He’s focused on soda. It’s so much more than that. He has not been very successful in the other jurisdictions where he’s weighed-in
A vote to try to repeal the pop tax is expected Sept 13th in the Cook County Board.
