(CHICAGO) Landmark state school funding legislation was signed into law this afternoon by Governor Rauner here in Chicago at Ebinger Elementary School.
With the stroke of a dozen souvenir pens, Governor Rauner ended decades of political fighting over state school aid, saying “Today we ensure that in the future, every child in Illinois has an equal chance at an excellent education, every student in Illinois has an equal opportunity to achiee the American Dream. This is a wonderful achievement.”
Even his ex-friend Mayor Emanuel thanked Rauner, “I want to specifically thank the governor for coming to a Chicago school for this bill signing. Thank you, governor.”
Conspicuously absent was Speaker Mike Madigan. He issued a statement saying more work needs to be done.
