(CHICAGO) Here on the day before the Cook County Board considers repealing the controversial penny-per-ounce pop tax, there was a rally downtown in favor of repeal.
Big Soda staged a lively rally across the street from the county bldg. calling on the County Board to “can the tax.”
It was also about west side County Commissioner Richard Boykin all but announcing he wants to run against County Board President Toni Preckwinkle in the March primary.
Boykin said, “You’re that bright and shining star that breaks thru the darkness. That tax that’s hanging over our head, well, I can see the light breaking thru the clouds and I can see us canning that tax! As long as you continue to let your light shine, I can tell you, there is nothing we can’t do together! Can the tax! Can the tax!”
In another moment, Boykin was yelling “Can President Preckwinkle!”
