Quigley: the penny pop tax will be repealed

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO) North side Congressman Mike Quigley – a former member of the Cook County Board – is saying Toni Preckwinkle’s much-hated penny-per-ounce pop tax will be repealed.

Taping “Connected to Chicago” for Sunday night at 7 on WLS-AM, Quigley predicted pop tax repeal because it’s so big and so visible.

He said, “I think there’s an anger in the base about an increase in property taxes, income taxes in Illinois and this is just one more sort-of poke in your eye. Why do I have to address this.”

Quigley’s solution is to consolidate and streamline more government at all levels.  Until then, he says taxes like the pop tax will have voters telling politicians “a pox on all your houses.”
