(CHICAGO) Grab your wallet! Ride-share fee hikes appear to be in the works.
Right now, Uber & Lyft pay five bucks for every trip to and from OHare, Midway, McCormick Place and Navy Pier. Passengers pay 50 cents for every ride.
Increases for both are in play.
But why should a ride-share ride cost more? Here’s what City Council Transportation Committee chairman Tony Beale says.
“The market is still unfair. If you look at the taxicab industry and the rideshare, there’s still not equality so far as what they’re paying. If we need to level that playing field in order to bring more revenue in, then I think we have to look at that.”
Meantime, Alderman Beale has put on-hold his demand that ride-share drivers be finger-printed. He says he’s awaiting a demonstration of some new and mysterious technology he won’t reveal, Facial-recognition technology perhaps.
