(CHICAGO) Officials at Oak Park and River Forest High School are investigating after a social media post appears to show a student in “blackface.”
A caption on the photo posted to social media says “vote for me for BLU president,” a reference to the high school’s Black Leaders Union. The Chicago Tribune reports that officials at the school were made aware of the post Monday.
The school issued a statement that reads in part, “We share the hurt and dismay that this action has caused our school community. We take such matters extremely seriously and are investigating.”
In response, some community members are organizing a forum discussion on October 16th. The school has not yet taken any action against the student.
