(CHICAGO) A fire risk has BMW recalling more than 1 million cars and SUVs.
A heater for a valve can overheat in some BMW vehicles causing the valve to melt and sparking a fire under the hood. Being recalled are some 740,000 BMW 1, 3 and 5-series cars, the Z4 sports car and X3 and X5 SUVs from the 2007 through 2011 model years.
A second recall covers thousands of 3-series cars from 2006 to 2011. Wiring for the heating and air conditioning system can overheat and melt connectors. Four injuries have reported in connection with that problem.
Both recalls begin Dec. 18.
