(CHICAGO) At City Hall, yet another fine has been proposed.
How would you feel about getting hit with a 90 to $500 fine for walking while tweeting or using your cellphone in any way in a street.
Aldermen Burke and Beale are proposing it and Mayor Emanuel is not ruling it out.
“Everybody does it and everybody is irritated when somebody else does it,” says the Mayor, “So, my total view is I want to look at it. I think it has something to do with peoples’ own safety and their own attention around their own environment for their own safety and the safety of others.”
Indeed, Aldermen Burke and Beale say pedestrian deaths are way up to 27 just in the first half of this year.
