(CHICAGO) The grand jury investigating an alleged cover-up in the shooting death of LaQuan McDonald has been dismissed after the special prosecutor assigned to the probe announced Tuesday that there will be no additional indictments.
That means there are three officers charged in the alleged cover up to protect officer Jason Van Dyke including Van Dyke’s partner, the lead detective and another officer that was on the scene.
The grand jury, which was convened in November 2016, filed charges of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and misconduct in June against Detective David March and patrol officers Joseph Walsh and Thomas Gaffney.
A dashcam video recorded the October 2014 incident in which 17-year-old McDonald was shot 16 times by Van Dyke. McDonald had been in possession of a knife and had slashed some vehicles. Officials say he was high on PCP at the time of his death.
Van Dyke has pleaded not guilty and is still awaiting trial.
