(CHICAGO) So, how does the CTA fare hike play politically for Mayor Emanuel?
This fare hike is small enough, and far away enough from Rahm’s 2019 election, that it looks like it can get away with it.
Lately, he’s also been saying it’s necessary to avoid the kind of mass transit problems New York City’s been having, noting “I would just tell ya where the MTA is so bad that it’s strangling their economy. That’s not true in Chicago.”
So, politically, this fare hike does not look as menacing for the mayor as the billion-dollar plus taxes and fees he’s imposed since 2011.
