(CHICAGO) Chicago Congressman Luis Gutierrez on Tuesday afternoon on confirmed reports he won’t seek another term and is endorsing his friend County Commissioner Chuy Garcia to succeed him, who, in turn, is endorsing Alderman Rick Munoz to succeed him on the County Board. So why is Gutierrez retiring? .
It’s hard to imagine Gutierrez willingly retiring from Congress before the immigration reform fight is over. But, he says he wants to help rebuild Puerto Rico too, telling WLS’s Bill Cameron “Look, it’d be nice if I could be congressman and be running around the country at the same time. That’s not fair. It’s just not fair, Cameron. It’s just not fair. It’s not fair to see my island as destroyed as it is and people turning their backs on her as they are, starting with President Donald Trump. And knowing I can make a change, I can help rebuild that island.”
Gutierrez says he won’t rule out running for something in the future except Mayor of Chicago and Governor of Puerto Rico.
