(BOLINGBROOK, IL ) A southwest suburban police officer and three of his relatives died in a crash, in Ireland, on Monday.
Bolingbrook Police Officer Stephen Alexander was killed in a crash reportedly involving a rental car and a truck. Alexander’s father Doug, mother Lily and brother Doug Jr. also died. They had been in the town of New Ross in Wexford, Ireland for a family funeral.
Alexander, who was 49, was a 17 year veteran with the Bolingbrook police department who, among other things, taught self-defense skills to women and girl scouts at the village’s park district.
His co-workers say he was an exemplary officer who took great pride in his career and devoted himself to serving and protecting Bolingbrook residents. Alexander leaves behind two young daughters.
Kent Kaled was a longtime friend of Officer Alexander’s brother, Doug Jr., tells ABC7 that Doug Jr. was a devoted husband and father and he doesn’t know how they’re going to be able to cope with this. “It’s just too much for all of us,” said Kaled.
