State Rep Sente has advice for incoming legislators

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO)  An amazing ONE-THIRD of the membership of the Illinois General Assembly is leaving after next year’s elections and WLS News asked one of them what advice she would give to the next General Assembly to try to end the nasty state of affairs in Springfield.

State Representative Carol Sente of Vernon Hills crosses the aisle to get things done. She’s a Democrat who follows former Republican Governor Jim Edgar’s advice, “You can have some principles that you won’t give up on, that you old dear, but you can’t have too many of them, and on everything else you have to compromise.”

Her advice to the next crop of legislators is also to pay attention to process and don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t be talking to leaders of the other party.
