(CHICAGO) General Motors, Toyota and Ford report a 1% decline in 2017 sales compared to the previous year.
Fiat Chrysler’s sales fell 8%. Honda was flat and Volkswagen and Nissan were up.
U.S. new light-vehicle sales dipped almost 2% to 17.2 million for all last year – ending seven annual gains.
Asked about how tax overhaul and some extra money in pockets might help the industry, Ford Vice President Mark LaNeve says it’s hard to just yet but ,”Early read from some of our dealers and big commercial accounts – there may be some positives in it in terms of the overall commercial aspects of the market, which would be great for us considering how strong we are in that part of the business.”
A few automakers say luxury sales have struggled. One reason is the trend of moving into SUVs and trucks continues.
Ford says, even with bitter temperatures and snow, it saw strong sales in the last 10 days of December.
