(CHICAGO) A disciplinary body in Chicago is recommending that an officer who killed two people be fired.
In December 2015, Chicago Police Officer Robert Rialmo responded to a call from a man in a west side two-flat who said his son was acting erratically.
When police arrived Bettie Jones, who lived in the building, opened the door and officer Rialmo says 19-year old Quintonio LeGrier charged at him with a bat.
LeGrier was shot and killed. Bettie Jones was killed by one of the officer’s errant gunshots.
According to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability report Rialmo’s statements about what happened were “inconsistent and ultimately unreliable” and “no evidence” was found that any of the shots fired were necessary.
It has sent to Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson a recommendation that the officer be fired. A Chicago police spokesman says the department is reviewing the recommendation.
