(CHICAGO) In the back and forth between Senator Dick Durbin and President Donald Trump over the s-hole countries controversy, Illinois senior senator tried to get Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to verify that her boss said it.
Nielsen was in the White House meeting last week where Trump denies but Durbin says the president used the vulgarity in question. So with Nielsen now on Capitol Hill for committee testimony Durbin asked her this, “You said on Fox News that the president used strong language. What was that strong language?”
Nielsen: “Strong language? Let’s see there was strong language. Apologies, I don’t remember specific words. What I was struck by, as I’m sure you were as well, was just the general profanity used in the room by almost everyone.”
Durbin: “Did you hear me use profanity?”
Nielsen: “No, sir, neither did I.”
Durbin: “Did you hear Senator Graham use profanity?”
Nielsen: “I did hear tough language from Senator Graham, yes sir.”
Durbin: “What did he say?”
Nielsen: “He was impassioned. I think he was feeling very strongly about the issue, as was everyone in the room. “
Durbin: “Senator Graham spoke up in a way that I respect very much, countering what the presdident said about countries in Africa, reminding the president that his family did not come to America with great skills or wealth, but they came here as most families do, looking for a chance to prove themselves and make this a better nation. And in defense of Senator Graham, his strong words repeated the exact words used by the president which you cannot remember.”
And there you have Senator Durbin kind of liking the use of cuss words to back up his case for the Dreamers.
