(CHICAGO) Governor Bruce Rauner put a negative spin on the Amazon Headquarters bid because of our “corrupt” politics. Mayor Rahm Emanuel – in reaction to Rauner – was trying his best to restrain himself.
In the understatement of the week, Rahm said, “It would be helpful (pause) if the state was pullin’ with us.”
Then he was making an excuse for Rauner, noting “The governor has some challenges. He has a campaign and a budget comin’ up, but we have incredible strengths. For 4 years in a row Chicago has been number one is both corporate relocations and direct foreign investment. The only thing I would say to the governor is we’ve done that in the face of pretty bad dysfunction in Springfield. Imagine if Springfield got its stuff together, how good they’d be.”
Rahm thinks Rauner’s a drag on the Amazon bid but he doesn’t want to cause even more political instability by saying so.
