(CHICAGO) — The woman who accused a former political consultant of House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) says party officials took too long to respond to her complaints, and she believes there was a cover up.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Alaina Hampton says alleged inappropriate texts by Kevin Quinn went on for five months. In text logs that date back to 2016, Hampton asked Quinn several times to stop asking her out and sending suggestive texts. She reported the behavior in February 2017 to Quinn’s supervisor and in November, she wrote Madigan who had an attorney investigate. Quinn was fired Monday after that investigation.
Hampton ended up quitting her job out of fear and frustration.
“Accepting that they weren’t going to protect me and that I was going to lose everything I worked for because a man could not control himself was devastating,” Hampton said Tuesday. “I never wanted to do this but I know that my silence only protects the perpetrator and the organization, which will allow this situation to happen to someone else.”
Hampton has filed a complaint with the Equal Opportunity Employment Office, and is also considering a federal lawsuit.
