CHICAGO (AP) — Early voting will be delayed at least one more day in Lake County.
Lake County Clerk Carla Wyckoff says election officials had hoped to start Friday, but are awaiting a decision on a statewide candidate’s ballot challenge. She says staff is on standby in case a decision comes later Friday.
The State Board of Elections estimates roughly 30 jurisdictions didn’t start early voting Feb. 8 as planned for the Illinois primary. That includes Illinois’ four biggest counties and Chicago. Election officials say their list isn’t exhaustive or official.
Cook and DuPage counties are waiting as late as Feb. 21. Will and Lake counties are also delaying.
Several candidate challenges are pending, including for attorney general. Democratic candidate Scott Drury has appealed a judge’s decision that he can’t be on the ballot over paperwork questions.
