(CHICAGO) Numerous media reports say an advance team from Amazon will be in Chicago this week to tour various potential sites for the company’s much-touted second headquarters. The online retailing giant has set off a frenzy among Chicago and other cities hoping to lure the second headquarters known as HQ2, which could create up to 50-thousand new high-paying jobs.
Chicago is one of 20 cities that have made the first cut as potential sites for Amazon. City and State officials have reportedly offered ten sites in the City and suburbs, including a massive parcel of land on the Chicago River in the Lincoln Park-Bucktown area known as Lincoln Yards, and the soon to be vacated McDonald’s headquarters in Oakbrook.
While in Chicago this week, Amazon officials are expected to tour a handful of those sites. The company is set to make it’s decision later this year, with construction starting in 2019.
